There’s something special about Christian schools that makes them popular with pupils, parents and staff.
A million children attend Church of England schools in this country and the church is the biggest provider of education in the UK.
The school has strong links with St Peter’s Church and is situated a short walk away in the village. Several members of the Governing Body are members of St Peter’s Church and the school has the added benefit of Diocesan support and advice.
On the last Thursday of each month the children and staff meet in church at the start of the school day for a special service. Other church services, at which parents and friends are always welcome, are held at the Christian festivals. The Vicar leads collective worship each week at school.
Newnham St Peter’s provides a superb start to any child’s educational career, laying foundations for confident, independent learning. In 2014 the Reception year achieved above national average results in the Early Years Foundation Stage, again receiving the prestigious Bristol Standard, a national quality mark which demonstrates the success of its provision.
Pupils gain places at the best grammar schools and academies in the area, taking with them a love of learning and motivation to reach the highest goals.
Recognised as a “Centre of Excellence” at the last statutory inspection of Church Schools, this flourishing school is appreciated for its Christian ethos which impacts on standards and all-round education.
Newnham St Peter’s welcomes families of all faiths and none. The roll is increasing year on year as more parents discover the schools academic excellence and exceptional pastoral care.
Because we are a Church School, our aim is to promote the Christian ethos in all we do:
- We teach it in arithmetic by accuracy
- We teach it in language by learning to say what we mean – yes or no
- We teach it in history by humanity
- We teach it in geography by breadth of mind
- We teach it in handicraft by thoroughness
- We teach it in science by reverence
- We teach it by manners to one another and by truthfulness in all things.
